  Oakland Community College Projects
  Oakland Community College - Dr. Debra Rowe
 

Energy - Working with colleges across the country, developing sustainable energy (renewable energies and energy efficiency technologies) education courses and programs. Working on a National Science Foundation grant to create a one year online renewable energy certificate available to all colleges and universities in the country and six modules in sustainable energies for related degrees. Still teaching online courses in this energy management and renewable energies at Oakland Community College - www.oaklandcc.edu/EST

Partnership - As co-chair of the Higher Education sector of the U.S. Partnership for the Decade of Education for Sustainable Development and as Senior Fellow at the Association of University Leaders for a Sustainable Future, Dr. Rowe created national partnerships between the Association of University Leaders for a Sustainable Future (ULSF) and both the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC & U) and the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) to promote activities on education for sustainable development for the Decade. These partnerships jointly represent over half of the colleges and universities in the U.S., and have already produced articles, national presentations and national initiatives. Positive meetings for collaborations on projects with leaders of the National Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges (NASULGC), the Association of American Universities (AAU), the American Assoc. of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) and the American Council on Education (ACE.) Development of a Higher Education Climate Action Project with the assistance of the Society of College and University Planning.

Working with 11 National Higher Education Associations, engaged in formal partnerships, project collaborations or national initiatives to promote education for sustainable development. These national associations address higher education student life, curricula, facilities, purchasing, business operations, food consumption, housing, student union activities, college/university planning and more.

As co-chair of the U.S. Partnership Marketing Action Team, Dr. Rowe has facilitated the creation of marketing materials (e.g. a press release, logo, letterhead, brochure and banner) for use by those joining the U.S. Partnership. A downloadable PowerPoint about education for sustainable development is also available.

The marketing action team is also meeting with teams of experts about how to effectively market and communicate sustainable development. The team will be working with partners to analyze the gaps in market research and facilitate filling in those gaps and then disseminating this information. In addition, the marketing action team continues to collect the success stories from the partners.

Outreach - Dr. Rowe is also co-chairing the K-12 sector and is working on outreach for the business sector of the U.S. Partnership.
